You are allowed as many as five characters. No more. You of course do not have to have five. You may only have one if you wish. If you choose to not use a previous character so that you may make a new one, there is a section in sorting where you can delete a character.
-First Rule of Roleplay:
You must have a sorting profile that has been accepted by a staff member before you can roleplay. [You can post anywhere in the Chatting Zone before your sorting profile is accepted, but no where else.]
-Post in third person. At all times!
This means that all actions must be written in past tense and that all dialogue must be in quotations.
Bad Example:
She doesn’t know what to do, so she decides that she will go outside by the lake and skip some rocks. When she gets outside she looks up to the sky and notices that rain is threatening to come down. I wonder where everyone is, she says.
The above example is not how we RP on this site. Posting that way just makes things so confusing to read, and may even stop people from wanting to roleplay with you.
Good Example:
Ilene was sitting in the common room, her mind racing with the upcoming events of the school. She had been so excited when she learned that the Yule Ball was being held again. Brushing back her long dark hair, she let her silvery eyes stare into the depths of the fire, the dancing flames captivating her mind.
That is how we RP folks.
-No one-liners
Never post a single line post in these forums. Ever. Make your posts at least 6 lines long. At all times. If you are in an RP thread and you find that you can’t reply to someone with 6 lines, then try adding some detail into your posts. Describe the things around your character, what they are doing, what they are seeing. If you do, I am sure you will have no problems spitting out posts longer than 6 lines.
No godmoding (a.k.a powerplay)
You cannot control someone elses RP character. It is called godmoding and you will reprimanded for it. People do not appreciate you taking control of their character, and deciding what he/she does. Everyone has complete control of their own characters and that is it.
Example:
Mary’s hand dove into her robes and quickly brandished her wand, pointed it at Gary, and hit him with the full-body bind curse.
WRONG! What if the person who was playing as Gary didn’t want to get hit? I didn’t even give him a choice or a chance…he could have wanted to make a run for it, jump in the bushes, or whatever.
Here’s another example:
Mary’s hand dove into her robes and quickly brandished her wand, pointed it at Gary, and sent the full-body bind curse his way.
The difference between those two? The second one is giving Gary the chance to miss being hit by the spell, block it or decide is he wants to get hit with it.
-Students Cannot Be Affiliated with Lord Voldemort
Exactly how it sounds. Students are not to be portrayed as Death Eaters, or anything of the sort.
-Original Characters CAN NOT be related to a Cannon Character.
-No Mary Sue’s/Gary Stu’s
Mary Sue/Gary Stu: names used to indicate a character that has it all. Everyone likes them, they are exceptionally beautiful, score higher than Hermione, can do patronuses at the age of thirteen (Harry’s is the only known person to do that in canon), and…AREN’T REAL. Make sure your character has some flaws, that huge boil on the side of their head makes people more real than that silky skin everyone wishes they had. Can you, yourself, do anything and everything possible? No one is that perfect and that includes your character.
-Mild swearing is allowed.
We’ll let you get away with saying “damn” or “crap” but nothing too big, like the ever infamous “F” word. That belongs else where.
Read all previous posts before you post.
It’s pretty much common sense, but I have seen people on other boards who just post and have no idea what’s going on. For example, Cody could be in a middle of a fight with a Death Eater and near death when John comes and enters the RP acting all dandy and greeting everyone like it’s a nice day outside. Just don’t do it. If you want to enter into a thread that is already in full swing, read every single post before it. Do not enter a thread with no clue as to what is going on.
Your character is not allowed to have special powers.
NO EXCEPTIONS! Keep in mind that are students not advanced wizards/witches. Who in Hogwarts has special powers? Precisely.
- You can not make your [Original Character] related to someone elses unless you ask them for permission first.
~Please note that these rules are subject to change. It is your responsibility to come back every now and then to see if there have been any updates.
CANNON CHARACTORS: To RP as a cannon character (a character from in the Harry Potter series) you must first get permission from an administrator. To request a cannon character PM an admin (La Belle Dame Sans Merci or Malsicuro preferably).
